EXTREME FUNDRAISING

Extreme Fundraising is a family of fundraising programs that provides support to all the ministries of Glen Mar UMC, with a focus on Mission Ministries, through rebates, discounts, recycling of used electronics, internet-based programs, and collecting labels and box tops. In every case you, the consumer and contributor, do not spend any extra money. You will already spend money at the grocery store or the gas station, buy a book, eat some soup, replace a worn-out cell phone or printer cartridge, etc. The programs simply ask you to change the method in which you spend your money, not where, or to save things you may have otherwise discarded. The Gift Card Program, hosted by www.shopwithscrip.com, allows Glen Mar to purchase gift cards at a discount, which are then sold at face value to you. The average discount is slightly over 5%. With 400 national merchants in the program, the most popular cards are grocery cards (Giant, Safeway and Super Fresh), which represent about half the over $650,000 worth of cards sold to date (in less than two years). This has created a windfall of over $34,000 for ministries. Most of that money is used to support Mission Ministries and Disaster Relief through the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR), but over $10,000 has been set aside to help families reduce or eliminate their trip costs to Hurley, VA, Slidell, LA, VIM locations, or other Glen Mar mission trip destinations. There is no extra cost to participate, as it is money you are going to spend anyway. Buy the card from Glen Mar via cash, check or credit card, then shop. eScrip - the hidden fundraiser

Within the Extreme Fundraising family of fundraisers, one program is in a solid second place for raising funds at no extra cost. The program's concept is to register your Safeway Club Card and the credit cards you use for your daily purchases. Safeway pays a small percentage of every purchase into the program (in addition to the 4% you raised by using gift cards). Many local restaurants, which are not in the gift card program, pay a 5% rebate. Examples include T-Bonz, just blocks from Glen Mar, and Strapazza, near the Giant on Centre Park Drive. This currently generates about $170 a month for Mission Ministries.

The Resch Family eScrip Credit Card - Serving While Shopping
Every time Larry Resch makes a purchase with his eScrip Visa credit card about one percent is siphoned off and sent to Glen Mar. Larry has generated over $1,000 for missions in just over 3 years, half of which is applied to his family missions account, simply by using his eScrip credit card. Internet Purchases and Searches Create Ministry Funds

When you search the internet, use the Yahoo-based www.goodsearch.com. Through an advertising revenue sharing plan they pay about a penny every time there is a search to your favorite non-profit, which we all know is Glen Mar. Simply type in Glen Mar in the "Who do you search for" field and then perform your searches. To date over 16,000 searches have created $160 for mission ministries.

When you are going to make an on-line purchase, simply start your shopping at www.igive.com. After you register as a Glen Mar supporter, then every time you make a purchase through the 700 on-line stores, a percentage comes back to Glen Mar for Mission Ministries.

Shopping at Food Lion and Giant Foods

Giant and Food Lion support community programs through refunds from grocery purchases (Safeway does, too, through the eScrip program). Register your Food Lion MVP card and support Mission Ministries. Register your Giant card and support two Baltimore City schools with whom we have relationships (the Samuel F. B. Morse Elementary School and the Edgecombe Circle Elementary School - Giant's program only supports public schools) Join the hundreds of families supporting these programs by registering your cards at the gift card table on Sunday morning in the Gathering Place.

Trash For Cash

Don't throw those old cell phones and printer cartridges away. Recycle them at Glen Mar. The Missions, Administration and Children's ministries all benefit from recycling these common items that might otherwise be discarded. To date over $4,000 has been raised.
