"Extreme Fundraising" is a family of no-cost fundraising programs that generate financial benefits to all the ministries of Glen Mar UMC through rebates, discounts, recycling of used electronics, internet-based programs, paper recycling, and collecting labels and box tops.
In every case you, the consumer/contributor, do not spend any extra money. You will already spend money at a myriad of merchants every month, search the internet, replace a worn-out cell phone or printer cartridge, and a host of other normal daily life activities. These programs provide everyone ways to have the same exact outcome at the same exact price, but with the added benefit of additional resources becoming available for ministries.
Announcements:
- Gift Card sales will pass the $2 million level in April! Your purposeful shopping has created over $90,000 for ministries at Glen Mar, mission trips and UMCOR programs worldwide at no cost to you. Pick up a blue sheet at the gift card table.
- Hurley High School will receive $600 in May from the Box Tops for Education you have cut and saved. Please continue the good work.
- Shopping on-line for summer reservations or other items? Visit www.igive.com and register as a Glen Mar supporter, then click on the link for your favorite merchants. A small percentage of each on-line purchase is returned to the Glen Mar Mission Ministry Support Fund.
- Recycling old cell phones and printer cartridges have created over $9,000 for use by Glen Mar ministries.
The Gift Card Program allows Glen Mar members to shop at over 400 merchants and spend exactly the same amount as if one paid with any other method. In the process you generate a rebate to the church that averages about 5%. There is no additional cost to purchasers, as it is money you are going to spend anyway (on groceries, travel, restaurants, clothing, books, gas, etc.).
The process is simple. Glen Mar purchases gift cards at a discount, when are then re-purchased by members of the congregation at face value for one's daily shopping. The most popular cards are grocery cards (Giant, Safeway, Shoppers Food Warehouse and Whole Foods Market), which represent about half the over $1.9 million of cards purchased to date, with ministries sharing the free $90,000+ that has been generated. List of gift cards in stock every Sunday.
Individuals and families can designate up to half of the proceeds generated from their gift card purchases to be applied to offset the costs to participate in Glen Mar mission trips, Volunteer in Mission trips (VIM), and Youth On A Mission trips (YOAM). The remainder of the profits support scholarships for these same trips, plus many other ministries, including local, national, and international programs.
Purchasers may also allocate proceeds for the following ministries:
- "Praising God"
- "Growing Disciples"
- "Serving the World"
- the "Early Learning Center"
- the "Building Fund"

By all the means you can,
In all the places you can,
At all the times you can,
To all the people you can,
as long as ever you can.
