Connectional Giving through the United Methodist Church

Your contributions to Glen Mar United Methodist Church have regional, national and international impact through our Connectional Giving system.

With Connectional Giving, most of the money you give is used to support the ministries of your local church. A small portion funds regional ministries. Finally, a portion of your giving goes to the general church to support programs on a national and international level, which have been agreed upon by lay and clergy delegates of General Conference. We share the cost of these ministries, with each local church being responsible for contributing a fair portion or "apportionment." There are seven ministries funded through apportionments:

• World Service Fund
• Ministerial Education Fund
• Episcopal Fund
• Black College Fund
• Interdenominational Fund
• Africa University Fund
• General Administration Fund

General Conference created six unique Special Sundays to focus churchwide attention on specific ministries of the church:

• One Great Hour of Sharing
• Native American Ministries Sunday
• Peace with Justice Sunday
• World Communion Sunday

Funding UMCOR

One of the Special Sundays, the One Great Hour of Sharing, funds The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR), the not-for-profit humanitarian agency of The United Methodist Church. UMCOR provides emergency response in times of natural or civil disaster. Its work is global and includes countries in Africa, Asia, Central and South America, the Caribbean. UMCOR also serves in long-term disaster recovery in the US.

The Advance for Christ and His Church

Glen Mar contributes to additional ministries through the Advance for Christ and His Church. The Advance for Christ and His Church offers individuals and groups an opportunity to contribute to specific programs, missionaries and ministries of their choice.
